Our Dedicated Staff

Daniel Szeglowski, Director, did specialized graduate work in the Piagetian philosophy of Early Childhood Education and has many years of experience previously teaching in private schools in the Buffalo Area before dedicating his career to Discovery. He also served as a remedial reading teacher for the Buffalo Board of Education and is experienced in the development and presentation of a Science Discovery Program for young children.  "Mr. Dan, the Science Man," has been a preschool teacher for more than two decades, and brings a special sense of fun and adventure to the classroom.

Mary Szeglowski, Head Teacher, is an experienced elementary school teacher with 25 years teaching language arts  and music in preschool.  Mary is also responsible for the day to day administrative functions at Discovery Schoolhouse.

Together, Mary and Dan have over 55 years of experience in the classroom, half of those years working together as a dynamic teaching team known to hundreds of Discovery Alumni as Mr. Dan and Mrs. Mary.

Mrs. Dawn and Mrs. Pat have been an incredibly valuable part of the Discovery team for 14 years.  The students of Dawn and Pat's first classes will have now all graduated from High School!

Miss Merideth attended Discovery Schoolhouse as a preschool and summer program student.  She is a certified teacher working on her Master's Degree and teaches at Discovery during the summer.  She has been part of our teaching team for 11 years.

Mrs. Maria, an enthusiastic and fun loving nature enthusiast, has been teaching at Discovery for 6 years.

Mrs. Joanne, a Master's degree teacher with 20 years experience as a preschool and kindergarten teacher, brings her expertise in Mathamatics and Reading instruction.  She has been with us for 3 years.

Our newest staff member, Miss Claire, has been with us for 2 years.  Her gentle heart and artistic ability make her a favorite with students and parents alike.  Claire has an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.

All teachers at Discovery Schoolhouse exceed the qualifications set forth by the Department of Education. Our teachers represent a diversity of ages and bring their own talents in music, theatre, movement and language to the Discovery community.
